[Nicole
Guitar]
It's been a while since I last pulled this out.
[Nicole
Guitar]
Let's see if I still remember anything.

After first three hits:

If third beat hit perfectly:
[Nicole
Guitar]
Huh, not bad.
If third beat missed or barely missed
[Nicole
Guitar]
Hmm, a bit rusty.

[Short pause in dialogue]

[Nicole
Guitar]
Wonder if Cole even likes acoustic...

[Short pause in dialogue]

HaileySpriteS.png Woah, you can play guitar???

[Short pause in dialogue]

[Cole
Guitar]
Eh, it's nothin' special.

[Short pause in dialogue]

HaileySpriteS.png Come on! You're great!
HaileySpriteS.png You should play more!

[Short pause in dialogue]

HaileySpriteS.png If I knew how to play, I'd play for everyone.
HaileySpriteS.png My grandma, the doctors, that miner guy, Logan...
HaileySpriteS.png Maybe Logan would pick up on that sorta thing?

[Pause in dialogue]

[Nicole
Guitar]
Hey, it's you.
[Nicole
Guitar]
Something up?
LoganSpriteS.png Nothing much. It's quiet without Hailey...
[Nicole
Guitar]
The blonde girl?
LoganSpriteS.png Yeah. She's on a trip right now.
LoganSpriteS.png Feels a lil' lonely without her.
LoganSpriteS.png I hope she's doing alright...

[Interlude]

HaileySpriteS.png Got anyone you wish you could play for?
LoganSpriteS.png So...are you practicing this for someone or something?
[Cole
Guitar]
Well, um...I...
[Nicole
Guitar]
Uh...
MinerSpritesheet.png Y'know...I think if you keep playing guitar back here, the train conductor's gonna get mad.
Cole Spritesheet.png Maybe. But maybe...if I keep playing cool stuff...he won't get mad...
JanitorSmol.png I heard the Barista playing around on the guitar.
JanitorSmol.png I like it.
JanitorSmol.png I used to get annoyed when people played their music in public spaces.
JanitorSmol.png Y'know, like on the subway? Or on the sidewalk.
JanitorSmol.png But lately... I don't know, I just can't muster the bitterness to get mad about something like that.
JanitorSmol.png Even if they're awful at it.
JanitorSmol.png They're putting their soul into every note... and it makes the air feel beautiful, in a way.
JanitorSmol.png It makes us feel more connected, as a community. As fellow human beings.
JanitorSmol.png That said... I strongly prefer when the musician isn't awful at it.

History

  • This level first appeared in the closed beta under the name Delay Pedal 2.
    • It had Barista as the Oneshot row instead of Cole and Nicole, and Samurai as the main classic row, with the exception of the Intimate motif, which was Logan.
    • After the dialogue, the Oneshot pattern was cued with a simple "Get Set Go", since modern Oneshot cueing standards weren't in place yet.
    • This proto-Squareshot pattern, after a few loops, would change again, adding a third oneshot per bar. This third pattern was not adapted into the Steam version of the game though.

Trivia

  • This is the first and only level to make use of Logan's alternate 'hit' sprite, where he looks to the left, raises his hand, and smiles with his eyes open. This animation has been present within the level editor prior to its first main game use.
  • The C-rank title may be a reference to another one of 7th Beat Games games, A Dance of Fire and Ice.
  • The post-clear text states that there are "four patients", however there are actually five patients as the Samurai appears briefly in this level. This may be an oversight.
