Training Doctor's Train Ride Performance (4-1) is a level in Rhythm Doctor. The Night Shift version is Rollerdisco Rumble.

It introduces the Miner and Holds.

Synopsis

In a cutscene after One Shift More, Paige goes to a vending machine to grab some food before she clocks out for her shift. Hailey appears, asking Paige if she can go on a trip outside the hospital. Hailey's grandmother can't leave to go visit her hometown out west, and has asked Hailey to take some photos of the desert landscape and deliver keepsakes to her relatives. Paige is unsure if she should oblige Hailey's request, but takes note of how important it sounds to her, and takes her to Ian to figure out a solution. Ian is initially hesitant to grant Hailey's request, before Paige emphasizes that this is important to Hailey, and Ian finally obliges. He then states that this trip would be a good opportunity to test out the Rhythm Doctor program's capabilities in delivering long-range treatment to patients, and sends Hailey on her way. Once the player is in the train that Hailey is traveling on, Ian talks to the player from the hospital and informs them of a new patient who has a sensitive heartbeat that must be taken care of via a new method of rhythm defibrillation. The player treats the Miner through his heart issues, with the Miner briefly warning the player of "the tough part" halfway through the level. After the level, the Miner and Hailey have a brief conversation where she tells him where she's headed on her trip. Then, the Miner's heart issues flare up again, as a dusty fog starts rolling in. Hailey asks the player to help them out, leading them into the next treatment.

PaigeSpriteS.png Eight years of med school for dinner from a vending machine.
PaigeSpriteS.png Not as glamorous as I told my friends it would be.
HaileySpriteS.png (Oh, there she is!)
PaigeSpriteS.png Third day in a row of putting off the groceries. There's just never any time. Too tired.
PaigeSpriteS.png Just need to go home, eat this protein bar and these chips, collapse, and get up in time for my next shift.
PaigeSpriteS.png Easy.
HaileySpriteS.png Um, excuse me, Dr Paige?
PaigeSpriteS.png Oh, hi there. Hailey, right?
HaileySpriteS.png Yup! I wanted to, um, ask you something!
PaigeSpriteS.png What's that?
HaileySpriteS.png I know that I'm supposed to be staying in my room and recovering and all that, but...
HaileySpriteS.png ...would it be okay if I went on a trip? And then came right back?
HaileySpriteS.png My grandma, she asked me a favor. Her hometown is out west, near the desert, but she can't leave to go visit.
HaileySpriteS.png We have some distant family out there, and she wants me to deliver keepsakes to them. And she asked me to take pictures, too!
HaileySpriteS.png She hasn't seen the desert landscape and her hometown in so long. It's where she grew up.
HaileySpriteS.png I know I'm not supposed to leave, but...please please pleeease, I'll come right back.
PaigeSpriteS.png Hm. I'm not sure.
PaigeSpriteS.png (Edega will completely explode on me if he hears about this.)
PaigeSpriteS.png I'm actually clocked out for today, I need to head home.
PaigeSpriteS.png But...this sounds important to you. I'll take you to Ian, let's figure something out.
HaileySpriteS.png Thank you, thank you!

[Fade to black]

[Cut to Ian's room]

IanSpriteS.png Pfft. Leaving hospital care to take some pictures and deliver a box?
IanSpriteS.png Isn't there probably some driver app that'll do that for you?
IanSpriteS.png Plus, you can probably just print out some royalty-free desert photos or something.
PaigeSpriteS.png Ian, please. It's important to her.
IanSpriteS.png F-fine. Hmm...actually, maybe this could work.
IanSpriteS.png I've been working on the Rhythm Doctor program, and it should be able to work at even further ranges than we've been using. Further out from the hospital's computers.
IanSpriteS.png T-this could be an opportunity for the intern to help me test it out.
IanSpriteS.png If the connection holds a few towns over, then we'll be able to tell Dr Edega that we can treat even more patients.
IanSpriteS.png People won't even need to leave their homes to get treatment. Elderly patients, immobile patients. It could be helpful.
IanSpriteS.png Then someday the waiting room will be nice and empty.
PaigeSpriteS.png So, we'll let her go out for a day?
IanSpriteS.png Y-yeah, let's do it.
IanSpriteS.png Go clock out, Ada. Thanks for all the help.
IanSpriteS.png ...and for you, you're going to follow Hailey on her train trip out west.
IanSpriteS.png Keep an eye on her, and administer any treatments she needs.
IanSpriteS.png T-this will be a great way to test the connection and push its capabilities. Good luck!
IanSpriteS.png Hello from the hospital! Can you hear me okay?
IanSpriteS.png It looks like you're looking to help a miner on the train, huh?
IanSpriteS.png I'm looking at the cardiogram results coming in, and this looks like it'll require a new method of treatment.
IanSpriteS.png Under Edega and Paige's care in the hospital, a condition like this would require pretty serious procedures.
IanSpriteS.png Luckily for him, I was recently experimenting with a new way to use the rhythm defibrillator.
IanSpriteS.png To do the type of intense defibrillation necessary to restore his heart's function...
IanSpriteS.png ...you're gonna need to hold the button down instead of tap it.
IanSpriteS.png The incoming beats will cue you on how long you'll need to hold.
IanSpriteS.png Let's give it a try.
If first beat is completely missed:
IanSpriteS.png Not quite.
If first beat is initially hit but held too short/too long:
IanSpriteS.png Make sure you time it right, and only hold for as long as the incoming beats did.
If first beat is completely hit:
IanSpriteS.png Wow, that was perfect.
IanSpriteS.png You're getting it.
IanSpriteS.png There we go!
IanSpriteS.png Now, let's try doing a longer hold.
IanSpriteS.png Now the release cues will only start after you start holding.
IanSpriteS.png I'll demonstrate...
IanSpriteS.png There! Now, we'll keep holding...
IanSpriteS.png ..and listen for the pop sounds, and release on the fourth one.
IanSpriteS.png OK, your turn!
If first successfully hit beat is held too short/too long:
IanSpriteS.png Ah! You almost had it.
If first beat is completely hit:
IanSpriteS.png You're a quick learner!
IanSpriteS.png Awesome!
IanSpriteS.png Now, finally let's go over a trickier type of hold.
IanSpriteS.png Be ready to release the button when it's time.
IanSpriteS.png It's a tricky concept, so it might take a few more tries to have the new method down.
IanSpriteS.png Even so, it's our best method available for helping that miner.
IanSpriteS.png He's completely unaware of how delicate his heart's condition is right this second!
IanSpriteS.png Y'know, you're pretty selfless for treating a complete stranger out there...
IanSpriteS.png ...you remind me of Ada, haha.
IanSpriteS.png Anyway, that's all from me. Good luck!
[Interlude]
MinerSpritesheet.png Oof...I can feel it, I think the tough part's coming.
MinerSpritesheet.png Do what you need to do. Let's finish this.
MinerSpritesheet.png Thanks for the save, bud.
HaileySpriteS.png Are you okay? You looked like you were in pain.
MinerSpritesheet.png Yeah, I'm feeling a little better now.
MinerSpritesheet.png Where you headed, kid? You on a school trip?
HaileySpriteS.png Oh, no. Not school. I'm visiting Goldenrock, the town where my grandma grew up.
HaileySpriteS.png I have a delivery to make, and I'm taking photos.
MinerSpritesheet.png You should nab a shot of the view whipping by, I bet you don't get a landscape like this where you're from.
HaileySpriteS.png Oh, you're right! Let me get my camera!
click!
HaileySpriteS.png Ahh, this is so cool! It beats being cooped up in that hospital bed.
HaileySpriteS.png ...hey, now it's getting all blurry.
MinerSpritesheet.png Looks like a dusty fog is rollin' in. We get that a lot. Might get a bit hard to see.
MinerSpritesheet.png ...! Urgh...
HaileySpriteS.png Are you okay?
HaileySpriteS.png You! Doctor person!
HaileySpriteS.png Can you help us? Please?
JanitorSmol.png I thought I heard that you left to go on a trip.
JanitorSmol.png Did you forget something?
JanitorSmol.png Or do you just like talking to me?

History

  • During this level, Hailey and Cole can be seen in their seats whenever the camera pans to the right. At release, Hailey and Cole would show different animations in response to the player missing or hitting the Miner's heartbeat.[1] This feature was removed in a later patch and both characters now display their idle animation permanently, regardless of the player's current performance.
