Rhythm Doctor
Rhythm Doctor is a rhythm game developed by 7th Beat Games. Rhythm Doctor is a rhythm game where you heal patients by defibrillating in time to their heartbeats. Learn each patient's unique heartbeat and defeat boss viruses trying to sabotage your rhythm, all set to heart-pumping, soul-soothing music.
Core Gameplay
Rhythm Doctor's core gameplay involves hitting a single button, likely the spacebar. The game's primary mechanic is the Classic Beat: the patient's row will play a set of 7 equally-spaced beats, and the player must press on the 7th. The game introduces other gimmicks that alter the core behaviour of classic beats as the game continues.
These include things such as Row Xs, where red X's appear on the line making some of the beats silent, forcing you to keep the rhythm in your head.
There are also visual distractions such as the game window "glitching", or various things blocking the line of beats from being seen.
Rhythm Doctor's secondary mechanic is the SVT Beat, also called a Oneshot: the patient's row will play a two-beat rhythm, and the player must press on the 2nd beat. A more intuitive way to think of Oneshots is to think of it like a kick-snare pattern. Since the player has 1 beat of anticipation and no reference for when to hit, oneshots follow a consistent, looping pattern which is cued by the Nurse beforehand. The game introduces other gimmicks that alter the core behaviour of oneshots as the game continues.
Story
Rhythm Doctor sees you as an Intern at Middlesea Hospital, where you, alongside your co-workers Ian and Dr. Paige, use a new technology called Rhythm Defibrillation to treat various heart conditions to the beat of a song.
You treat a wide range of patients over the course of the game, their conditions caused by anything from lovesickness to a love for techno music.
