Mats the Cat: thanks to Azabiphetamine for a bit of a clean up of my messy edit, added a W.I.P. version of the story section

Rhythm Doctor is a rhythm game developed by 7th Beat Games. Rhythm Doctor is a rhythm game where you heal patients by defibrillating in time to their heartbeats. Learn each patient's unique heartbeat and defeat boss viruses trying to sabotage your rhythm, all set to heart-pumping, soul-soothing music.

Core Gameplay
<b>Rhythm Doctor</b>'s core gameplay involves hitting a single button, often the spacebar. The game's primary mechanic is the Classic Beat: the patient's row will play a set of 7 equally-spaced beats, and the player must press on the 7th. The game introduces other gimmicks that alter the core behaviour of classic beats as the game continues.<br>
Thease include things sutch as Row Xs, where red X's appear on the line makeing some of the beats silent, forceing you to keep the rhythm in your head.<br>
It also often uses visual distractions suctch as "glitching" the game screen or various things blocking the line of beats. <!-- add something here about visual distractions and 1-x? -->

<b>Rhythm Doctor</b>'s secondary mechanic is the SVT Beat, also called a Oneshot: the patient's row will play a two-beat rhythm, and the player must press on the 2nd beat. A more intuitive way to think of Oneshots is to think of it like a kick-snare pattern. Since the player has 1 beat of anticipation and no reference for when to hit, oneshots follow a consistent, looping pattern which is cued by the Nurse beforehand. The game introduces other gimmicks that alter the core behaviour of oneshots as the game continues.

Story
Rhythm doctor sees you as an Intern at Middlesea Hospital, alongside your co-workers Ian and Dr. Paige, whom currently are working with a new method of threating patients via Rhythm Defirbulation, stabalizing heart rates by pressing alongside the beat of a song.<br>
You treat many patients, old and new, along your jounrey, afflicted with various conditions from partying too hard to more emotional ones like a lovestruck heart.

<!--add info about the first 1 or 2 acts here to give the reader a general idea of what the story is like-->

<!-- also: maybe include act 3 stuff, maybe foreshadowing the last two acts' core conflict -->
<!-- also: i'm not sure if this should include complete story, since other pages cover it. a general overview would fit better -->

General Gameplay
Rhythm doctor, unlike most Rhythm games, does NOT work on a "press on every beat" basis. A lot of Rhythm games will have you press imputs to every beat in a song often signified trough scrolling notes, often with many diffrent buttons. Rhythm doctor instead focuses on timing and a single button, your spacebar. This is most often done on a "7 beat" basis, where you will hear a set of beats and must press on the 7th, this includes with various other mechanics sutch as some beats being silent or going in an irregulair swing rhythm. It also often tends to mess with visuals and cues makeing you hard focus on your own sence of keeping a Rhythm in your head.
Unsustainable Inconsolable (5-2N) is a level in Rhythm Doctor. It is the Night Shift version of Lo-fi Beats For Patients To Chill To.

It introduces Burn Beats.

The track was created by Patricia Taxxon.

Synopsis
Lucky asks for a new form of pain relief, as the Freeze Beats' effect is no longer enough on its own. Edega gets Ian to demonstrate Burn Beats to the Intern, after which they use the new treatment on Lucky alongside the Freeze Beats. After the treatment, Lucky asks if anything they've tried "actually works", to which Edega tells him to be patient.

Gameplay
The gameplay of 5-2N can be split intro 5 "parts", the first part of the level consists only of freeze beats, but at verry irregulair timings compared to 5-2. This quickly transitions intro part 2 where you must only deal with burn beats at a simmulair irregulair timing where the burns constantly change. Once part 3 begins its a speedy rhythm of both burn and freeze interchangeing with one another, again at constantly changeing timings. After this a short instrumental part with no gameplay or diologue will play before part 4 nbegins, which is much the same as the previous one with interchangeing freeze and burn beats, however at a much slower pase. There will also be a "wobbly" effect where the screen will create verry vivid and surreal visuals withe evrybeat hit or missed. Once this is done you transfer to regulair subdivision beats as seen in 5-1 and 5-1N, Howver the last beat will be a suprize "Five!" which has not appeared before.

2-player mode
There are 2 Luckys, and each player treats one. Player 1 has Freeze Beats while Player 2 has Burn Beats. Each time Player 2 has a Burn Beat, Player 1 has a Skipshot, but this does not happen the other way around—whenever Player 1 has a Freeze Beat, Player 2 continues the Oneshot pattern as normal. During the final segment, both Players alternate between having a Subdivision pattern and not, and both play the quintuplet at the end.
A-all I'm saying is..

The best part about the rhythm defibrillator is that it's designed to do one thing and do it well.

It regulates irregular heartbeats. That's it.

Your obsession with keeping this system elegant and streamlined is getting old.

Your "freeze beat" prototype passed the first test. This tech has so much more to offer.

I mean, sort of? But there is still a lot I need to do to help get the previous patients ready to go home.

Ada and I have been trying to finish their treatments. B-but you keep asking me to make all these new-

I'm not asking.

H-hey! I've got another rhythm treatment for muscle pain.
Sometimes, the freeze beats aren't enough on their own.

So...uh, I tried reversing all the plugs from the cooling console...

...and now it creates a blast of heat that shortens the next heartbeat!

I think it will be soothing. Like a hot spring in your veins! <span style="color:#c0c0c0">(Maybe.)</span>
Player Two, watch carefully. I'll demo it.

Player One, just follow the usual pattern.

Alright! Let's practice!

I don't really have a name for this treatment. We can call them, uhh... <span style="color:#ff0000">burn beats</span>?

Just like freeze beats, burn beats can change up their timing. Just listen to the cue and you'll be fine.

Now, let's try alternating between both treatments.
::<small>(Two-Player)</small>

::<small>If half the beats are hit:</small>:
::{|

History
*

Trivia
* The official 7th Beat Games upload of this song on their Youtube differs in some ways compared to the version found in the files of the game. When phase inverted with each other, it reveals that the Youtube upload includes the hitsounds (as the level's hitsounds are the main drums you hear) and has different mixing and mastering compared to the in-game file.
* Of all the levels that have achievements tied to them, this is the only one requires that you achieve an A rank, not an S+.
** This is likely because the devs themselves consider it the hardest optional level in the game, considering it even has a warning before you play.
* It is to date the only official level to exclusively use Burn Beats and a "Five!" Subdivision Beat.
The code is:
Hurry Up!
In 3-X "One Shift More", after the line "But they've been waiting for so long", if the player doesn't press the last beat, the Politician's urging can be heard.
When you open the editor between December 21st and 31st (inclusive), the metronome will look like a Christmas tree and the sound will change to bells.
Typing "Samurai." (with the dot and capital S) in the Story Mode select screen or Main Menu will change most text in the game to only display "Samurai." Floating Text events will only display one syllable per line, which will always be "Samurai." The text can also be changed back to normal by typing "Samurai." again.
Heartshot
While selecting a Oneshot Beat in the editor, holding Shift and H will allow you to make the pulse heart-shaped, similar to the final beat of All The Times.
Hidden Editor Characters
In the editor, holding Ctrl, Shift, and Alt and then changing a row's character will allow you to select characters otherwise not shown in the editor, such as Ian or Edega.
Getting Scolded
If you repeatedly select a locked level, Edega will tell you to stop.
Headache
If you hold left or right while in the level select menu of story mode for long enough, Edega will tell you to stop.
Give me a breather!
In the day shift in the SVT ward, if you swap between Supraventricular Tachycardia and Lo-fi Hip-Hop Beats To Treat Patients To constantly, Cole will get tired and will take a breather in between the 2 levels.
I dont know what to call this one (pls give it a name)
In the custom level menu, if you stay on a unopened level (meaning a packaged one) for some time, the small bird who holds the screen wil get tired, slowly descend and eventually drop the screen. It then goes off screen to get a new screen.

Art Exercise, also known as Young Love or Doodling (X-1) is a level in Rhythm Doctor.

It is the last level in the main storyline. It properly introduces Lucia, and though it has no tutorial, the level still demonstrates the true property of Squareshots outside of decorative uses.

The track was created by BoxCat Games.

Synopsis
Hailey stumbles upon Lucia, struggling with an artist's block. Lucia asks Hailey to participate in an art exercise where Hailey draws scribbles and Lucia turns it into drawings. The player treats Lucia as Hailey draws various scribbles on Lucia's sketchbook, with Lucia turning it into various drawings; She draws a picture of Hailey, a grumpy alligator, a T-Rex, a "sneaky dude [...] up to no good," a woman with a long nose, a chubby bird sitting on a branch, and finally, a self-portrait of herself. She thanks Hailey for participating in the exercise with her, and tells her that they should do more scribbles another time. and that she's reminded of Ian and Paige as they where friendly too.

Gameplay
2-player mode
Player 1 treats Lucia, while player 2 treats Hailey. Player 2 only plays Squareshots, while player 1 only plays classic beats. Unlike the 1-player version, there are multiple squareshots interspersed throughout each phrase.
* Before the Muse Dash collab was added to the game, this was the only level to feature Squareshots. It featured no tutorial for these Squareshots, simply relying on firsthand demonstration for the player to understand the mechanic. Once the Muse Dash collab levels were added, however, a proper tutorial was incorporated in MD-1. Lastly, Dreams Don't Stop now introduces Squareshots within the main story levels, meaning that X-1 can no longer be played before the player understands the mechanic.
::* Before the Act 5 update, this was the only non-collaboration level to incorporate the use of Squareshots.
* Before the Act 5 update, this was the first time the player could see Lucia, as a patient or character, show up within a main story level. In Dreams Don't Stop (5-X), Lucia now makes her first indirect appearance as one of the patients being coached by Lucky.
* Before the full release, Ian and Paige would thank the player for treating all available patients in the Early Access version of Rhythm Doctor as the level ends. However ever since the full release, there is no early acsess version to be thanked for, and thus the lines were removed and changed.
